Youth Summer Camp
Are You Ready to Rock?
Girls Rock Dallas hosts a week-long summer day camp for ages 8-17 to empower girls, trans and gender-expansive individuals through music education. Want to learn how to rock in music and in life? This is the place.
What happens at Girls Rock Dallas summer camp?
Qualified volunteers will instruct campers in guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals. The campers will form bands and learn how to write original songs together to perform live at a music venue in Dallas for the camp’s showcase. Campers will also have the opportunity to attend a variety of life-skill and technical workshops.

Workshops include (*subject to change):
Songwriting: In-depth exploration on how to write a song, using poetic, melodic and harmonic methods.
Techie 101: Learn how to work your own amps, distortion and looping pedals, as well as other aspects of live sound.
Recording: Learn the ropes to recording on different technological interfaces like GarageBand and recording booths.
DJing: Learn from a local DJ the basics of DJ skills.
Music Videos: Learn how to plan, stage and execute a music video.

During camp, campers will study one instrument for the week. We have volunteer instructors teaching guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. On the application, campers will be asked to pick their top 3 choices and cannot change those choices after sending the application in. Instruments are assigned based on availability as well as camper requests. Once instruments have been assigned at camp, campers cannot switch.
Who may apply for camp?
Girls Rock Dallas welcomes campers who self-identify as female, trans and gender expansive. No musical experience is necessary, just an interest in learning. Campers must be between the ages of 8-17 at the time of camp in order to apply.
How to apply for camp
To apply for summer camp, fill out the Summer Camp Application (and OPTIONAL financial assistance section).
Camper selection: Campers are currently admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 60 slots available. Upon receipt of your emailed or mailed registration form, we will send you a notice via email confirming your reservation number and containing payment instructions.
Camp Cost and Financial Assistance
$350 is the full camp cost. Girls Rock Dallas is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations made are tax deductible. Camp payment, however, is not a donation, and therefore it is not tax deductible.
We believe that any qualifying camper who would like to go to camp should be able to, so reduced camp cost is available for campers from low- and moderate-income households. It is our goal to make camp accessible to all because we believe that every youth can benefit from the program. We also value a diverse camper population, reflecting the greater city and world we live in. You may apply for financial assistance by filling out the financial assistance form. Applying for financial assistance will neither increase nor decrease your chances of being accepted to camp.
NOTE: Please do not send your camp payment in with application. You will be notified via email or phone of camp acceptance. If your child is accepted, tuition will be due no later than 30 days prior to camp start. If you need to setup a payment plan, please let us know and we will make arrangements.
Intern positions are available for campers ages 14-17 who have attended 2 or more sessions of Summer Camp, either at GRD or an affiliate camp.
Girls Rock Dallas does not provide lunch for campers. Each camper needs to bring a labeled sack lunch (we cannot provide refrigeration for lunches). However, if you are eligible for free lunch at school and would like free lunch at camp, please check the box on the financial aid application and we will do our best to make arrangements for lunch to be provided.
Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided to all campers.
We understand that plans may change for some of our campers and their families. We may have a waiting list for our camp and will greatly appreciate that you let us know of your change of plans as soon as possible. Our cancellation policy for the 2020 summer camp is:

- 15 days before first day of camp: 50% refund
- 1st day of camp or during camp: No refund
We appreciate your understanding of this policy in our efforts to create the best camp experience for all campers.
