Kristen was a vocal instructor and band manager at our camp this summer.
She has been singing professionally for about 5 years, but has been singing all of her life. When she was in the 3rd grade, she started singing in choral groups, and then around the age of 26 she began singing solo. She also played the french horn and violin when she was younger.
As well as singing, Kristen plays keyboards, bass and electric guitar. She finds playing additional instruments helps her in the writing process.
Some of Kristen’s biggest influences are: Janis Joplin, Brody Dalle and Lauryn Hill.
Kristen is the lead singer for the band The Crazy Ivans.
Kristen says that her favorite part of camp was watching the girls develop their own original song, “The creative process was awesome!”
When asked about giving advice to future performers, Kristen stated, “ Make hearing awesome music the reason you play music. Any other reasons (fame, money, cool stories) will all eventually make playing music feel like a chore. Don’t “put up” with a song you don’t like as a means to an end. If musicians are our own radio, we should never want to change the station.”
